Admission to Communicare LLC. requires careful consideration of a number of variables. The individual must meet the regulatory requirements established by the Florida Legislature for ALF's; the facility must be capable of providing the services required by the individual; the individual or the authorized representative must be willing to choose the facility.
The State of Florida AHCA rules are quite specific concerning who may be served by an Assisted Living Facility. In general, Communicare LLC. may serve anyone who:
- Is 18 years or older.
- Has acquired brain injury, neurologic impairment or developmental disability.
- Is able to perform activities of daily living with supervision or assistance, if necessary.
- Is free of communicable disease which is likely to be transmitted to other residents or staff; however a person who has HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infection may be admitted if otherwise eligible.
- Is capable of participating in social and leisure activities.
- Is capable of taking his or her own medication with or without supervision by trained staff, or resident is capable of contracting with appropriately licensed third-party administer medications.
- Is capable of self preservation with assistance from staff in an emergency involving evacuation of the facility.
- Is represented by legal guardian if determined to be incapacitated pursuant to Chapter 744 F. S.
- Is not violent and physical aggression may be managed by medication and/or learned self-control techniques.
- Agrees that by being accepted for admission to the facility, the resident is encouraged to participate in daily Self-Government meetings usually held Sunday through Thursday.
- Agrees that by being accepted for admission to the facility, the resident is encouraged to participate in activities of daily living, including shared responsibility with other Residents and staff for the daily/weekly maintenance and cleanliness of the home.
- Agrees that with admission to the facility the resident will be encouraged to participate in leisure and recreational activities, most, if not all events decided by majority vote through the resident daily self-government meetings.
- Agrees that being accepted for admission to the facility will provide the resident with the least restrictive living environment. However, the staff has the obligation to ensure a least restrictive environment paired with concern for every resident's safety, welfare and quality of life. Thus, supervision levels, based upon behavioral and self regulation, can and will be utilized within the home.
Communicare, LLC., as an Assisted Living Facility, may not admit or retain anyone who:
- Is bed bound for more than (7) seven days.
- Has a bed sore or skin breakdown classified as stage 2, stage 3, or stage 4 pressure ulcer.
- Requires 24 -hour nursing or mental health care.
- Has special dietary needs that cannot be met by the facility.
- Is violent, and can not be aided by medication and can not learn behavioral self-control techniques and behavioral management skills.
- Requires administration of medication, unless the medication is administered by a third-party contracted by the resident or authorized representative. Family and friends may not administer medications unless licensed to do so.
- Refuses to abide by supervision levels as decided and agreed upon based upon behavior control, self-regulation, self-management of the resident, and health/safety of the resident.
- Refuses to be involved in a treatment program that can have, as part of the program, teaching acquisition of social skills, volunteer experiences, avocational activity, and/or vocational activity.
